Our take on Gurei
The defining detail is that boss order is open: a Kami can be the first fight on one path and the final boss on another, with its strength determined by the path taken.
What is Gurei?
Play as Rei, a human spirit charged with defeating the Kami, mystical entities of nature.
Choose which Kami to fight and in what order; their strength is determined by the path taken. Each victory grants Rei a distinct skill, such as a stronger dash, an execution weapon, or healing. Combat also includes sword attacks, dodges, and head stomps. The Kami live in a surreal castle between the human and spirit worlds. As Rei progresses, she encounters creatures from Japanese mythology, along with side objectives, unusual animations, commentary, and secrets. Defeated Kami accompany Rei and absorb their personalities. Their remarks sometimes offer information about the lore or game mechanics.
