How to choose a casual game
Casual games are easy to start and easy to put down: puzzle games, match-three, hidden object, idle and clicker games, cosy builders, card games and short arcade experiences. They are made for sessions of minutes rather than hours.
Low stakes does not always mean easy. Some casual puzzle games get properly hard in their later levels, and some idle games are designed to be played a little every day for weeks. Others are complete in a single evening.
Use the fit notes to match a game to how you will play it: on a break, while listening to something, or as a relaxed weekend game. The “Skip it if you…” list warns you about repetition, microtransactions and short length.
Casual games are also a good place to find free and very cheap titles. Look at the price line and the platform line together: many casual games run on modest hardware and on Mac or Linux, which makes them easy to try on a laptop. A short demo or a low price makes it cheap to find out whether the loop clicks for you before you invest more time.
