Our take on Shanghai Summer
The page foregrounds memories, regrets, anomalies, and emotional relationships, while its gameplay section gives only a brief account of how Topics and Clues function. The narrative premise is clearer than the moment-to-moment interaction.
What is Shanghai Summer?
Set in Shanghai in 2003, this adventure follows Baichuan through twelve days marked by strange temporal experiences and familiar yet unfamiliar memories.
An invitation from his former girlfriend, Qiuyu, begins a search involving past hopes and regrets. Along the way, he encounters Fengyi, a freelance artist; Xiaobo, a troubled high school student; and Jingxian, a university student dealing with family problems. Gameplay uses Topics and Clues gathered from everyday situations to explore the inner lives of these characters. Locations include classrooms, a bookstore called What-If, and a neighborhood café. The story builds toward the twelfth night, when Baichuan attempts to repair a shattered dream.
