Our take on The Long Journey Home
The journey's grand scale may suggest unrestricted space exploration, but the stated objective remains specific: bring the stranded crew home. Much of the structure centers on managing crew abilities, negotiating with aliens, handling consequences, and repeating journeys through changing galaxy layouts.
What is The Long Journey Home?
A crew becomes stranded across the galaxy after an experimental jump drive malfunctions during a test flight.
The route home passes through a procedurally generated universe of planets, anomalies, alien societies, quests, hazards, treasures, and artifacts. Each journey can alter the galaxy's design, while revisiting known regions allows different routes through familiar surroundings. Players assemble a crew with skills including archaeology, technology, and diplomacy, then negotiate, form alliances, raid trap-filled tombs, research artifacts, and enter a major combat tournament. Decisions carry lasting consequences, and the crew may suffer losses while building relationships with alien factions. The central objective is to guide the crew back to their families and friends.
