RPGIs Approaching Infinity worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Science-fiction RPG players who want turn-based combat mixed with exploration and diplomacy
- Sandbox players who prefer choosing their own activities instead of following one required objective
- Roguelike fans who want procedural playthroughs with faction quests and long-term crew progression
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a tightly scripted campaign may find the optional objectives and open-ended structure too diffuse
- Players who want consistent, low-risk progression may dislike the danger of death and the game's roguelike structure
- Players looking for real-time combat may not enjoy its turn-based battles
Our take on Approaching Infinity
The sandbox breadth comes with a less tightly directed experience: progression can involve many optional roles, activities, and faction paths rather than a single focused campaign. Its simulation also abstracts time and distance, sacrificing some physical consistency for a more manageable turn-based structure.
What is Approaching Infinity?
Approaching Infinity is a turn-based space RPG with procedurally generated sectors, planets, caves, items, and encounters.
Each playthrough supports tactical combat, diplomacy, mining, trading, crafting, artifact hunting, planetary surveys, salvage, and faction quests. Players upgrade a ship, choose from 10 character classes, and recruit up to 5 additional officers. Fourteen factions have full quest lines, while 12 alien races provide stories, including 8 paths to unique victories. Two additional victory methods can be discovered. Adventure mode reduces the consequences of death, while hardcore mode supports a 10-victory goal. The game also includes optional objectives, hidden mysteries, character customization, and ongoing crew and equipment progression for players who prefer open-ended exploration.
