Our take on Bloodgrounds
Permanent loss makes recruitment and equipment decisions carry lasting consequences, but a developed gladiator can disappear after one defeat. City construction adds a separate management layer, reducing the focus on continuous arena combat.
What is Bloodgrounds?
Command gladiators in grid-based, turn-order fights, using action points for travel, attacks, skills, gear, and placed hazards.
Assemble a roster drawn from physical, ranged, and magical disciplines, then develop each fighter through stat improvements, new abilities, equipment, and treatment for harmful conditions or injuries. Death is permanent: a defeated gladiator and their carried gear disappear. During downtime, expand Marevento by building and improving sites such as an infirmary, marketplace, and memorial, each adding campaign services or systems. Divine powers can assist during encounters, and an arrangement with a criminal leader can hinder opponents beforehand. Overcome the Arena Champion in every territory to move into the next age, opening further structures and equipment.
How Bloodgrounds plays
- 01Grid Arena Battles
- Units act in initiative order and spend action points on movement, attacks, abilities, items, and traps.
- 02Gladiator Development
- Recruit physical, ranged, and magical fighters, then improve their levels, statistics, abilities, status, and equipment.
- 03Permanent Character Loss
- A gladiator who dies is removed from the team, and their equipment is lost with them.
- 04City Construction
- Build and upgrade locations in Marevento, including an infirmary for recovery, a market for item trading, and a monument for fallen gladiators.
- 05Arena Progression
- Defeating an Arena Champion in each region advances the age and opens access to additional buildings and items.
