Our take on Syndrome
Scarce ammunition gives the ship’s threats a tactical structure: weapons exist, but stealth and evasion often take priority over confronting every enemy.
What is Syndrome?
Syndrome is a science-fiction survival horror game set aboard the Valkenburg, an exploration and science ship drifting after a disaster.
Awakening from cryosleep, the player finds the crew dead and searches the vessel for answers about what happened. Numerous enemies patrol the ship, responding to sounds and investigating disturbances. Weapons are available, but ammunition is scarce, making stealth and evasion important parts of survival. Exploration leads through the ship’s interior, where physical and psychological horrors, discoveries, and story details reveal more about the incident. Combat remains an option, but limited supplies mean that weapons cannot be used freely against every threat.
How Syndrome plays
- 01Sound-responsive enemies
- Hostile creatures investigate noises and other disturbances made aboard the ship.
- 02Limited ammunition
- Weapons can be found during exploration, while scarce ammunition restricts how often they can be used.
- 03Ship exploration
- The Valkenburg contains areas to explore and discoveries that contribute to uncovering the crew’s fate.
