Our take on Cosmodread
The emphasis on atmosphere and immersion can make Cosmodread sound like a primarily passive horror experience. Its core loop is more specific: repeated searches through rearranged ship layouts, resource collection, crafting, and carefully managed encounters where ammunition is limited.
What is Cosmodread?
Cosmodread is a VR survival-horror roguelike set aboard a failing spaceship.
Each attempt rearranges the ship’s rooms, passageways, supplies, dangers, and encounters, creating a different route and set of situations. Exploration involves searching for materials and opening containers such as doors, drawers, and lockers through hand-based interaction. Resources can be used to make weapons and gear for dealing with threats. Combat includes firing a crossbow from cover, placing traps, throwing objects to divert creatures, and managing limited ammunition. The objective is to find a route home to Earth while surviving the ship’s hostile inhabitants and hazards.
How Cosmodread plays

- 03Crafting System
- Collected materials can be turned into weapons and equipment.
- 04Resource-Limited Combat
- The crossbow uses scarce ammunition, while traps and thrown objects provide other ways to handle creatures.
