Our take on Star Traders: Frontiers
The game offers broad captain and ship customization, with a corresponding trade-off: managing crew assignments, equipment, and vessel upgrades takes attention away from a simpler, more focused spacefaring role.
What is Star Traders: Frontiers?
Take command of a spaceship and crew in a galaxy shaped by political conflict, alien threats, and rival factions.
Choose among 33 captain roles, including merchant, spy, explorer, pirate, and bounty hunter. Build a ship using more than 350 upgrades and 45 hulls, assign talents and equipment to crew members, and launch support craft from a carrier during combat. Explore procedurally generated maps, meet characters, take on enemies, and make choices that affect faction relationships and the story. Crew members also change in response to the captain’s decisions and actions. Difficulty options include save slots for separate builds or storylines, as well as character permadeath. Achievements unlock optional starting ships and contacts; a moddable version can bypass that unlock process.
