Our take on RIN: The Last Child
The defining mechanic is spell assembly: magic components form spells that can be modified, dismantled, and rebuilt from recovered aspects.
What is RIN: The Last Child?
RIN: The Last Child is a Metroidvania set in a mystical world, where RIN explores to restore order and confronts five boss characters: her unknown siblings.
Combat and exploration use spells assembled from Aspects of Magic and Spell Patterns. The game has 18 spells: 10 attack, 5 defense, and 3 utility. Lesser Runes can add damage, while Great Runes and upgrades can change a spell’s effects. Three spells can be assigned to quick slots, with an option to switch to another spell set. Spells can also be dismantled so their aspect components can be reused. The story draws on a myth about Cronus and his children, and choices lead to different possible endings.
