Our take on Songs of Rats
Rather than placing a conventional human hero in a stable fantasy realm, the game makes rats the inhabitants of civilization's ruins and turns a shifting labyrinth into its central structure. Its choose-your-own-adventure influence also gives exploration a decision-led shape.
What is Songs of Rats?
Songs of Rats is a dark roguelike RPG set in the Wreckage, a maze that changes as its ruins and paths shift.
Players create a rat hero, choose routes through the labyrinth, battle human and nonhuman enemies, improve equipment, and recruit companions. The game draws on choose-your-own-adventure books, framing exploration around decisions and hidden mysteries. Its setting contains burrows, settlements, hideouts, and the remains of vanished civilizations. Survival is central as the character ventures beyond safe areas, encounters strange threats, and searches for answers about the surrounding reality. A faithful dog can also be petted.
