Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want straightforward attacks may hit a wall when combat requires choosing between suit-based abilities, single-card attacks, and poker hands.
- Those seeking a short, fixed campaign may find the 52-level campaign structure, generated runs, and longer Spiral mode too involved.
- Players looking for a game without deck management will not find a fit in its card-building and deck-curation systems.
Our take on Aces & Adventures
The bounce point is the hand-building combat loop. Players must decide when to spend suits on abilities, throw single cards, or assemble poker hands, then account for possible counters based on hand size. That decision system will stop players who want direct attacks without card management.
What is Aces & Adventures?
Aces & Adventures is a deckbuilding RPG where playing cards and ability cards drive combat.
Players spend suits to activate abilities, attack with individual cards, or combine cards into poker hands such as pairs, triples, four-of-a-kind, and valid five-card hands. A defender can match the attacker’s card count and play a stronger hand to deal damage back. The game includes 13 fully voiced campaigns across four games and 52 levels, along with procedurally generated runs. Five characters have separate ability libraries and 30 advancement levels. Progression includes traits, equipment, deck changes, and ability upgrades to Elite or Legendary potency. The Invernal Spiral adds a longer deck-management adventure, while individual sessions are described as lasting 10–20 minutes.
