We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Strategy players who want trading and empire building in a space setting
- Simulation fans interested in economies affected by NPC activity and wars
- Space combat players who want exploration alongside ship customization and missions
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a tightly linear campaign may find the open-ended empire-building structure diffuse
- Players wanting short, simple sessions may find the trading, economy, combat, and exploration systems demanding sustained attention
- Players looking for turn-based combat may not fit the real-time battle system
Our take on X3: Reunion
The focus on a large, changing universe trades tightly directed pacing for open-ended activity. Building an empire, following missions, trading, and fighting can pull attention in different directions rather than delivering one narrowly structured campaign.
What is X3: Reunion?
X3: Reunion combines space trading, real-time combat, exploration, and empire building in a changing universe.
Players can establish factories, trade with non-player characters, fight pirates, and influence an economy affected by wars and construction. The game adds a 3D engine, new ships, weapons, devices, sectors, and a story. Its Bala Gi Research Missions introduce additional missions and features. A Player HQ supports ship construction and customized paint finishes, while the M7 battleship expands the available fleet. The Artificial Life system changes activity across the universe, including NPC trading and pirate behavior, so player actions can affect how the setting develops.
