Rather than limiting space strategy to fictional maps, the game uses the Milky Way as its main setting, combining known astronomical objects with procedurally generated systems. Its persistent universe also continues fleet activity while players are offline.
What is Stardust Exile?
Command fleets in a real-star Milky Way setting where known stars and exoplanets retain their stated characteristics, while other systems are procedurally created.
The online MMORTS places all players in one persistent universe and single shard, with combat, trading, alliances, bounties, markets, and resource production. Fleets continue operating while the player is offline, including harvesting and automated defense. Single-player skirmishes generate galaxies with adjustable size, density, systems, and opponents. Research, planetary outposts, and pirates can be enabled or disabled. Modes include a campaign to reach the Solar System, smaller conquest matches, timed resource wars, and an observation mode without a playable faction.
