StrategyIs Riftborne worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Strategy players who enjoy long campaigns with consequences that develop over weeks or months
- Solo players who prefer dense, information-focused interfaces and gradual empire building
- Multiplayer groups interested in factional competition, diplomacy, logistics, and espionage
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking fast matches or immediate action may find the real-time campaigns too slow and patient.
- Players who prefer simple interfaces may struggle with the dense terminal presentation and interconnected systems.
- Players looking for a primarily tactical fleet combat game may find the economic, logistical, and political systems occupy too much of the experience.
- Players wanting a short, self-contained campaign may not suit the long-running progression structure.
Our take on Riftborne
Rather than presenting grand strategy through a conventional graphical interface, Riftborne places empire management in a terminal environment. Its structure also replaces short sessions with persistent campaigns, where logistics, diplomacy, espionage, and economic decisions continue developing over days, weeks, or months.
What is Riftborne?
Riftborne is a terminal-based real-time grand strategy game about building an interstellar empire from a single base.
Players colonize worlds, construct fleets, manage production and storage, establish trade routes, and organize resource shipments across multiple colonies. Espionage includes intelligence gathering, sabotage, and infiltration, while raids, contracts, markets, negotiations, and political influence support different approaches to conflict. Campaigns continue for days, weeks, or months, with procedural galaxies shaping each campaign’s strategic geography. Enemy powers adapt to player behavior, and campaign histories, rankings, medals, and progression record long-term activity. Solo campaigns, local or online private servers, SSH hosting, and official multiplayer galaxies are available, with up to 120 commanders competing in one persistent universe.
