Our take on Walkabout
The store presentation gives extensive attention to geographic and environmental fidelity. The playable structure is summarized more briefly: exploration, gathering, crafting, building, and hunting form the stated survival loop, with no comparable detail about progression or objectives.
What is Walkabout?
Walkabout presents survival in a square Tasmanian setting measuring seven kilometres per side, modeled on Cockle Creek in southern Tasmania.
Its terrain draws on elevation information, real road and trail layouts, manually shaped waterways, and regional plants and animals. The simulation follows real-world time, seasons, illumination, solar position, tides, planetary rotation, and weather patterns. Players travel through the wilderness, collect food and resources, hunt Australian fauna, make equipment, and build shelter while adapting to environmental and wildlife threats. The game offers controller support, configurable mouse-and-keyboard bindings, customizable interface colors, and 15 languages. Its calm, atmospheric wilderness requires players to watch their surroundings as conditions change.
