Saves you a refund- Players who want to keep carried gear after every failure may hit a wall when an unsuccessful attempt can cost that equipment.

Our take on SULFUR
The clearest sticking point is the failure penalty: equipment brought along may be lost, while gear left behind may not be there when needed. Players who dislike making loadout decisions under that risk may hit a wall when preparing for a dangerous area.
What is SULFUR?
SULFUR is a first-person action-adventure set in a world of dark creatures and hidden dangers.
Players explore caverns, sewers, settlements, and castles while searching for loot, secrets, and answers. Combat uses firearms and other tactile weapons against unpredictable enemies. Weapons can be modified and enchanted, while weapons, gear, tools, and enchantments can be combined into different builds. Players choose between aggressive and cautious approaches as they adapt to changing threats. Gear brought into an attempt may be lost after failure, and equipment left behind may not be available later. Encounters with strange creatures can provide insights, but players decide how to continue through the world and uncover its mysteries.
