Our take on Penkura
Its defining structure is the split between overhead colony command and first-person survival exploration, with bots connecting those two parts through gathering, construction, repairs, and defense.
What is Penkura?
Penkura combines colony construction with first-person survival on an alien planet.
A top-down command interface lets players place buildings, operate machines, manage items, and direct bots for gathering, construction, repairs, exploration, and settlement defense. First-person exploration takes place beyond the base, where death removes carried equipment. The game includes a campaign set after a migration mission through a portal from Earth, with a mercenary investigating a dangerous new world and the loss of contact with earlier pioneers. Players can choose different areas of focus, including base management, resource work, bot operation, and exploration. The vendor also describes planned cooperative play with larger stations and additional maps, but that mode is still under development.
How Penkura plays
- 01Dual-view gameplay
- A command-focused overhead interface manages the colony while planetary exploration uses a first-person perspective.
- 02Programmable bots
- Robotic companions can collect materials, construct facilities, fix equipment, explore, and protect settlements.
- 03Equipment loss
- Character death removes the equipment carried at the time.
- 04Colony construction
- Buildings, machines, bots, and items are made through the MMC or CCC systems.
Penkura compared to similar games
Force of Nature also combines survival, exploration, crafting, and management, but its description emphasizes more than 10 zones with distinct flora and fauna, while Penkura centers on an alien colony and programmable bots. Survivalist: Invisible Strain focuses on an open-world zombie colony and character relationships, whereas Penkura focuses on base machinery, bot control, and first-person alien-world exploration. Quasimorph centers on corporate contracts and extracting resources during roguelike missions rather than building and maintaining a colony.
