We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Strategy players who want to command trains rather than units that move freely across a map
- Players interested in resource management alongside defending against hostile forces
- Players looking for a campaign of 20 missions instead of an open-ended strategy game
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want unrestricted movement across terrain, since locomotives are limited to railways
- Players seeking a campaign with more than 20 missions or an open-ended structure
- Players looking for direct, hands-on combat with individual units
Our take on Locoland
Rail-bound movement gives the game a distinctive focus on train orders, but it also restricts where forces can go. That constraint shapes combat and positioning throughout the campaign, rather than allowing units to cross the map freely.
What is Locoland?
Locoland is a strategy game set on a planet inhabited by steam-powered robots at war.
Players manage resources to develop an economy, command armored trains, and repel attacks from hostile creatures and elemental forces. Trains can travel only along railways, which limits where forces can move. The campaign consists of 20 missions with different levels of difficulty and an unpredictable plot. Weather and environmental conditions include day and night, rain, meteor showers, volcanoes, and snow. Players can combine or detach train cars, assign trains to patrol, and order attacks, including ramming an enemy train. Mouse and keyboard commands control train orders, construction, speed, and the game interface.
