Our take on Cubicle Quest
Rather than sending a party after a distant fantasy threat, this RPG turns employment, debt, relationships, and personal direction into its adventure structure. Its quests measure progress through changes in the character’s life, while combat reframes work and interpersonal abilities as battle tools.
What is Cubicle Quest?
Cubicle Quest turns dead-end work, repetitive duties, and difficult coworkers into enemies within an old-school RPG.
Quests affect the character’s life through outcomes such as workplace advancement, new relationships, and personal direction. Progress does not come from defeating an ancient evil for levels and gold: money comes through a regular job, side work, or starting a business. The game also includes debt repayment, savings, and stock investments. Combat uses work and interpersonal abilities instead of familiar elemental attacks. Nine party members provide different kinds of support. Choices involving marriage, remaining single, and other life decisions shape later events. The game offers 20–25 hours of play, post-game challenges, a secret ending, permanent decisions, and time-limited challenges.
How Cubicle Quest plays
- 01Life-based progression
- Quests can influence work, relationships, and the character’s direction rather than focusing on a traditional ancient-evil plot.
- 02Personal finance system
- Income can come from employment, side gigs, or a business, while money can go toward debt, savings, and stocks.
- 03Skill-based combat
- Battles use workplace and interpersonal abilities in place of standard fire-and-ice attacks.
- 04Nine party members
- Each recruit offers support suited to different challenges.
- 05Permanent decisions
- Choices remain in effect and time-based challenges contribute to replay value.
- 06Multiple relationship paths
- Marriage choices affect the latter half of the game, while another quest path allows the character to remain single.
