Our take on Bit Odyssey
Its open-ended procedural structure trades authored narrative progression for variety generated during each journey. The short episode format also favors frequent encounters and choices over lengthy, developed missions with extended arcs.
What is Bit Odyssey?
Bit Odyssey places the player in command of a customizable starship traveling through a procedurally generated galaxy.
The starting star and homeworld influence the race’s base traits, while editing tools shape its appearance and society. Those choices also affect the ship, whose design and capabilities can be modified. Travel involves collecting fuel, mining repair materials, trading, and visiting planets for away missions. Procedurally generated episodes present situations such as rescues, transports, battles, and investigations, with choices affecting relationships and later encounters. The mission system creates more than 100 episode types, usually lasting 3–8 minutes. Players can scan planetary items, collect plants, materials, and relics, and face battles against up to three enemy vessels.
