Good fit- Single-player space sandbox fans who want exploration alongside resource gathering
- Players who enjoy developing ships and fleets through gear, skills, and crafting
- Strategy-minded explorers who want to build stations and trade between locations
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a tightly scripted campaign may find the procedurally generated sandbox structure too open-ended
- Players who prefer brief, linear sessions may not enjoy the extended cycle of exploration, combat, gathering, crafting, and leveling
- Players looking for multiplayer fleet play will not find a multiplayer mode in this single-player game
Our take on Sector Space
The broad sandbox structure gives up a tightly directed progression path. Exploration, trading, crafting, combat, and fleet development share attention, so the experience favors ongoing management over a focused story-driven campaign.
What is Sector Space?
Sector Space is a single-player, top-down space sandbox set across procedurally generated galaxies.
Players pilot a ship, explore star systems and other sectors, mine asteroids, refine ore, extract planetary resources, and craft components, gear, and ships. Combat, gathering, and crafting provide experience for leveling. Character classes can support fleets of up to 6 ships, while secondary skills specialize the character and affect fleet ships at reduced strength. Travel includes continuous movement between sectors, jump drives, jump gates, and wormholes. Stations offer NPC services and resources, while player-built stations and drones can protect locations. Items have tiers and modifiers, and regional price changes create opportunities for trading between stations.
How Sector Space plays
- 01Generated Galaxies
- Each galaxy contains hundreds of star systems and points of interest, with some fixed locations appearing in changing positions.
- 02Fleet Management
- Certain professions can command as many as 6 ships, with selected skills transferred to fleet vessels at reduced effectiveness.
- 03Resource Crafting
- Asteroid ore can be processed into elements and components for making equipment and ships.
- 04Player Stations
- Personal stations can be placed and defended with drones against hostile invaders.
- 05Regional Trading
- Item values change by location and over time, creating a credit-earning route between stations.
Sector Space compared to similar games
Force of Nature also combines exploration, resource gathering, crafting, and management, but Sector Space places those systems across procedurally generated galaxies with ship piloting, fleet control, and space combat. Force of Nature is described around zones with distinct flora and fauna, while Sector Space uses star systems, stations, jump travel, and regional trading.
