RPGIs BossConstructor worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Single-player players who want to design and fly custom spaceships
- Tinkerers who enjoy balancing module costs, mass, and energy
- Players interested in procedurally generated exploration and simulated artificial evolution
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking multiplayer will hit a wall because the game is single-player.
- Players who want unrestricted construction during progression may find expedition mode’s ship and mission constraints limiting.
- Players who prefer fixed, hand-authored worlds may not enjoy procedurally generated galaxies.
- Players who do not want to install Java manually may avoid the Mac version.
Our take on BossConstructor
The bounce point arrives in the ship editor: each module consumes money, weight, and energy, while the default 14x14 grid limits construction. Players wanting broader building must use sandbox mode or add the integrity enhancer.
What is BossConstructor?
Build spaceships from more than 60 module types, balancing each component’s money, weight, and energy costs.
The ship editor supports designs within a 14x14 grid, expandable to 18x18 with an integrity enhancer module. Expedition mode begins with a small ship and sends players through procedurally generated galaxies inhabited by the evolving von-Neumann AI species. Missions, new enemy species, and scavenged components provide progression. Sandbox mode removes expedition constraints for unrestricted ship construction. Ships can include moving parts and multiple independently controlled sections. Bonus modes simulate competitions between evolving artificial-intelligence species. The game is single-player and supports Windows, Linux, SteamOS, and MacOS; Mac users must install Java manually.
How BossConstructor plays
- 01Modular ship editor
- More than 60 module types can be arranged within a 14x14 grid, or an 18x18 grid with an integrity enhancer.
- 02Expedition progression
- Missions, unfamiliar enemy species, and recovered components develop a starting ship through procedurally generated galaxies.
- 03Unrestricted sandbox
- A separate mode allows ship construction without expedition restrictions.
- 04Evolving enemy fleets
- Artificial evolution stages tournaments where altered ships compete and successful designs advance.
- 05Multi-part ships
- Constructed vessels may contain moving elements and sections controlled independently.
