Our take on Ys X: Nordics
The defining structure is its two-hero combat system, which lets players switch between Adol and Karja or control them together while exploring the gulf by ship.
What is Ys X: Nordics?
Ys X: Nordics follows the adventurer Adol Christin and pirate Karja Balta as they work together to protect the people of the Obelia Gulf from immortal monsters called the Griegr.
Players can control either hero separately or combine them through the Cross Action System, using their different strengths in combat and building a Revenge Gauge for special attacks. Mana abilities support exploration by enabling grappling, sliding, obstacle destruction, platform creation, and treasure discovery. The Sandras serves as the main vessel for sailing across the gulf, finding uncharted islands, and taking part in naval battles.
How Ys X: Nordics plays
- 01Dual-hero combat
- Adol and Karja can be controlled independently or together, with combined abilities available during battles.
- 02Revenge Gauge attacks
- Combat actions build a gauge that can be spent on stronger attacks.
- 03Mana traversal abilities
- Mana powers let the heroes grapple, slide, break barriers, form platforms, and locate hidden treasures.
- 04Ship-based exploration
- The Sandras enables ocean travel, naval battles, and visits to uncharted islands.
Ys X: Nordics compared to similar games
Ys X: Nordics combines fast action-RPG combat with sailing, naval battles, island discovery, and Mana-based dungeon traversal. Ghost of a Tale instead follows a mouse minstrel in an animal-populated medieval world with an emphasis on exploration, stealth, disguises, and conversations.
