The language restriction is the clearest point where some players will stop: the game is available only in Chinese. Even players who can read Chinese may bounce off if they want real-time combat, since battles are turn-based.
What is Xuan-Yuan Sword: The Scar of Sky?
Set in 601 and the years that follow, this turn-based RPG follows Chen Jingchou as he seeks artifacts on a journey tied to his homeland’s fall.
The story draws on Chinese history, mythology, and the five elements, moving through historical cities and fantastical regions. Battles use five elements—metal, wood, water, fire, and earth—with elemental relationships affecting damage or restoring health. An alchemy vessel can capture some enemies and combine pairs of items into new ones. The Fu Gui companion can be fed captured monsters and learn their skills; a separate Steam feature lets players raise it without loading a game save.
Two endings depend on dialogue choices. The Steam edition offers two battle interfaces and controller support. The game is available only in Chinese.
