Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who need English or another non-Chinese language will hit a wall immediately because the game is only available in Chinese.

- Players who prefer a self-contained story may not want a sequel that continues the first game's plot and relationships.
Our take on Sword and Fairy 2
The bounce point arrives before the first battle for anyone unable to read Chinese. Players who do continue may then face a second wall in the Gu Queen system, where feeding choices alter attributes, transformations, and offspring.
What is Sword and Fairy 2?
Set eight years after the first Sword and Fairy, this single-player RPG follows Wang Xiaohu, Su Mei, Shen Qishuang, and Li Yiru through intertwined conflicts involving returning and new characters.
Combat uses an angled 45-degree view and dynamic, synchronized turn-based exchanges. Systems include Yuling, which lets Li Yiru call one or two spirits that act according to broad directions; spirits can attack, assist, defend, and grow through repeated use. The game also includes tiger-sha, formations, poison feeding, and Gu breeding. Gu items can restore health or energy, revive characters, attack, raise abilities, or aid maze traversal. The Gu Queen changes according to the food and insects it receives, affecting its traits, appearance, production speed, and offspring.
How Sword and Fairy 2 plays
- 01Spirit Companions
- Li Yiru can summon one or two spirits whose behavior develops through repeated use and includes offensive and defensive actions.
- 02Gu Breeding
- Feeding the Gu Queen different items or insects changes its attributes, appearance, transformation stages, and the kinds of Gu it produces.
- 03Turn-Based Combat
- Battles use a 45-degree angled view with synchronized turn-based attacks and defenses.
Sword and Fairy 2 compared to similar games
Sword and Fairy 2 combines a continuing fantasy story with angled, synchronized turn-based combat, spirit assistance, and Gu breeding. Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition centers on exploring a strange city and an unconventional story, while Back to the Dawn focuses on prison survival, investigation, and escape. Tales of Symphonia presents an adventure about a chosen figure and two connected worlds rather than the listed spirit and Gu systems.
