Play it if you…
Good fit- Roguelike shooter fans who want changing levels and generated weapons
- Players seeking local co-op action rather than an online-only multiplayer game
- Action players who enjoy destructible environments and large enemy groups
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a slow, reflective pace may find the bullet-hell combat and endless survival waves too hectic.
- Those looking for fixed campaign layouts may not enjoy the changing level designs and generated weapons.
- Players seeking a story-led adventure may find the emphasis on combat and weapon progression limiting.
Our take on Woodpunk
The focus on procedural runs and combat variety comes at the cost of a fixed level sequence: changing layouts and generated weapons make repeated play less about revisiting the same authored encounters.
What is Woodpunk?
Woodpunk is a retro pixel-art shooter set in a medieval world where wood is the main energy resource.
Players take the role of an inventor fighting Maria di Medici and her armies with a robot that creates weapons from wood and scrap material. Its roguelike structure uses varied level designs and procedurally generated melee and ranged weapons. Enemies have individual artificial intelligence and strategies, while the environments can be destroyed. Story Mode sends players through themed cities and worlds that end with unique bosses. Survival Mode features endless enemy hordes and an online leaderboard. A technology tree supports weapon creation and enhancement, while more than 15 suits provide different abilities and play styles. Local co-op multiplayer is also available.
