Our take on Bohemian Killing
The game trades broad action systems for a concentrated trial format built around testimony, evidence, and consequences. That focus leaves less room for combat, large-scale exploration, or varied moment-to-moment mechanics than many adventure games.
What is Bohemian Killing?
Set in steampunk Paris in 1894, Bohemian Killing follows Alfred Ethon, an inventor on trial for murdering a young woman.
The game combines courtroom questioning with first-person exploration. In the courtroom, questions about evidence and witnesses open flashbacks to earlier events. During these sequences, actions and interactions alter Ethon’s testimony and the final verdict. Players can challenge evidence, question witness accounts, manipulate circumstances, or present different explanations for suspicious details. Several standard endings and one hidden ending are available. Standard mode leaves consequences to the player’s decisions, while Story mode provides advice from an attorney during testimony. The game includes voice acting for Alfred Ethon by Stephane Cornicard.
How Bohemian Killing plays
- 01Branching Testimony
- Actions during flashbacks change Alfred Ethon’s account and can lead to several standard endings or one hidden ending.
- 02Evidence Review
- The evidence menu organizes witness statements, expert opinions, reports, and physical evidence into categories.
- 03Two Play Modes
- Standard mode leaves decisions and their consequences to the player, while Story mode provides in-game legal advice.
- 04Courtroom Flashbacks
- Questions from the judge trigger returns to earlier events in Paris, linking the trial with first-person exploration.
