Is Vernal Edge worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Metroidvania fans who want combat built around combos and spells
- Players who prefer choosing their own route through interconnected areas
- Action-adventure players interested in pixel-art worlds and revenge stories
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players looking for slow, low-intensity gameplay may find the combat and platforming too fast-paced
- Players who prefer a strictly linear route may not enjoy choosing which islands to explore first
- Players seeking a primarily puzzle-focused adventure may find the emphasis on combat and traversal unsuitable
Our take on Vernal Edge
Choosing open island progression gives exploration a flexible structure, but it can reduce the sense of a tightly directed route. The emphasis on rapid combat and movement also leaves less room for a slower, more contemplative pace.
What is Vernal Edge?
Vernal Edge is a 2D action Metroidvania set across the floating islands of Haricot, where the Church of Aloe rules the fractured kingdom.

Exploration combines platforming with jumping, dashing, sliding, hidden secrets, and power discoveries in towns and dungeons. Combat focuses on chaining combos and spells into varied attacks against enemies. Vernal can also travel between islands by aircraft, choosing which locations to visit first.
