Our take on Lords of Exile
The fixed level sequence trades open exploration for a direct route through the campaign. Additional modes add replay options, but they unlock only after completing the game as Gabriel.
What is Lords of Exile?
Lords of Exile is a side-scrolling action platformer about a cursed knight seeking revenge in Exilia, a land beset by creatures and samurais.
Its 8 levels follow a linear path through obstacles, enemies, and a boss encounter at each level’s end. Defeating bosses grants Gabriel an additional skill. Combat includes thrown weapons, melee attacks, down stabs, jumps, and dashes, with curse powers that expand Gabriel’s abilities. Gabriel and Lyria are both playable and have distinct gameplay. After completing the game as Gabriel, players can unlock Speedrunner and Boss Rush modes, playable with either character. The presentation uses handcrafted 8-bit pixel art, retro-style sound effects and music, and physics described as 16-bit-inspired.
