Truxton 2 is a vertically scrolling shoot ’em up in which players pilot a fighter through waves of enemies and bullet patterns before facing bosses.
Its three weapons include a blue laser that tracks targets, a red napalm attack, and a green shot that spreads with power-ups. Two players can play cooperatively. The game has demanding difficulty, alongside a Very Easy mode and assist options such as adjustable auto-fire. Rewind covers 10–18 minutes, depending on the action, while quick saves use F1–F10 and reload with Shift+F1–F10. Practice mode offers customizable settings. Other additions include online leaderboards, replay capture, display scaling, and gameplay rotation in 90-degree increments.
