Our take on Super Hero League of Hoboken
Players looking for a serious post-apocalyptic story may hit a wall as soon as the heroes’ powers and enemies turn into jokes about cholesterol, aerobics and unusual seafood. The comic tone is built into the cast and combat, not confined to occasional dialogue.
What is Super Hero League of Hoboken?
In a polluted, mutation-filled United States, a small superhero group sets out to oppose Doctor Entropy and support society’s recovery.
Players lead members of the League, including Tropical Oil Man, Zaniac and Captain Excitement, whose unusual abilities affect opponents or animals. The journey spans six levels, traveling along the eastern seaboard from Buffalo and Three Mile Island to Manhattan and Atlantic City. Encounters include robotic exercise teachers and more than 31 other mutant foes, among them Cy Young Cyborgs and King Kong Salmon.
Combat uses a selection of weapons and strange objects, including Ginsu knives, brass knuckles and the Slinky of Death. The game combines adventure and role-playing elements, with a comic tone built around its heroes, enemies and post-disaster setting.
