Our take on Starless
Instead of treating deaths as routine retries, the game ties them to the Ark’s limited colonist population and the colony mission. Its stealth-action structure also places gadgets, caution, and adaptation alongside confrontation, while exploration across three Arks carries the mystery forward.
What is Starless?
Play as a colonist awakened aboard a failing space Ark after a virus infects the crew and life-support systems stop working.
Move through dark corridors, evade dangerous monsters, and use caution, strategy, and improvised tools to survive. The flotilla is bound for a distant planet, but the mission has only a limited number of colonists available, making each death consequential. Freya, the Ark’s AI, assists the effort to save the ship. Across three giant Arks, exploration reveals hidden modules, the fate of the other vessels, and the mystery of Mister Scratchy, a cat taken into space. Gadgets include plaster mines, teleporter traps, and motion detectors. Unpredictable enemies require adaptation during exploration.
How Starless plays
- 01Three Space Arks
- Exploration spans three large vessels in the flotilla.
- 02Improvised Gadgets
- Available equipment includes plaster mines, teleporter traps, and motion detectors.
- 03Limited Colonists
- Deaths affect the mission because the Ark carries a limited population for the planned colony.
- 04Hidden Ark Mysteries
- Secret modules reveal information about the other vessels and Mister Scratchy.
