Our take on Star Hunter DX
The focus on difficult bullet-hell encounters gives the game room for precise practice and score chasing, but it leaves less space for slower exploration or varied combat styles. The central time-control mechanic also ties survival and scoring closely to managing incoming fire.
What is Star Hunter DX?
Star Hunter DX follows Luna Starr, a former space pirate captain turned bounty hunter, as she pursues her mutinous crew across five planets.
Its battles are bullet-hell dogfights where enemy fire fills the screen. Luna can charge a Bullet Time gauge by destroying foes or catching attacks in a bomb blast. Activating it slows enemies and their projectiles while her craft continues at normal speed. Destroyed enemies can yield gold cubes during this slowdown, creating a choice between collecting safely or allowing more fire to build a higher score. A practice mode supports learning and run refinement, while leaderboards track results. The game also supports broadcasting gameplay through popular streaming software.
How Star Hunter DX plays
- 01Time control
- A charged gauge slows hostile ships and their projectiles while Luna keeps flying and firing at regular speed.
- 02Risk-based scoring
- Using the slowdown lets destroyed enemies produce gold cubes, while tolerating denser fire can increase the score.
- 03Five-planet pursuit
- The campaign sends Luna across five planets to confront members of her former crew.
- 04Practice mode
- A dedicated training mode supports beginners learning survival and experienced players refining runs.
- 05Gameplay broadcasting
- Gameplay and practice attempts can be broadcast through popular streaming software.
