StrategyIs Spiritlands worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Fans of settlement-building games who want to oversee residents, supplies, and expansion
- Strategy players who enjoy weighing trade and combat when dealing with colonies
- Players who prefer creating or adjusting terrain over playing only on randomly generated maps
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a short, linear campaign may find the open-ended settlement expansion a poor match.
- Those looking for a peaceful city builder may not enjoy defending against raids and managing fires or infections.
- Players seeking a game focused on direct combat may find that resource and population management take substantial attention.
Our take on Spiritlands
Its broad settlement and resource systems come with a trade-off: attention is spread across residents, supplies, exploration, and defence rather than focused on one narrow activity.
What is Spiritlands?
Spiritlands is a settlement-building and survival game centered on managing people and resources.
Start with a campfire, then establish villages and cities, assigning residents to roles such as farming, exploration, and combat. Settlements need water, power, food, shelter, and happiness, while fires and infections require emergency services and health centres. Collect food, wood, stone, and coal, then automate gathering through farms, lumberyards, quarries, mines, and fishing areas. Explore beyond settled areas to uncover ruins, colonies, and enemy camps.
Trade with colonies or fight them, and defend settlements from attacks with troops and fortifications. A map editor lets players paint terrain, adjust resource levels, use seeds, or choose presets such as desert and wasteland. The game includes 30 upgrades across five routes.
How Spiritlands plays
- 01Editable Worlds
- The map editor supports painted terrain, resource sliders, seeds, and presets that change the difficulty.
- 02Settlement Specialization
- Separate towns can focus on particular resources or faith points and distribute goods to other settlements.
- 03Colony Relations
- Four colony groups can be traded with, befriended through requested goods, or provoked into raids.
- 04Research Routes
- Thirty upgrades are divided among five routes, including Scientist and Conqueror.
