Our take on Spirit Island
The game reverses the usual conquest perspective: players embody the island’s spirits and resist colonizing forces rather than expanding an empire. Cooperation, fear, blight, and area control replace a standard race for territorial control.
What is Spirit Island?
Spirit Island is a cooperative strategy game in an imagined historical setting near 1700.
One to four players take the roles of spirits with different elemental abilities and join forces with the Dahan, the island’s native inhabitants, against invading colonists. Play centers on controlling regions across modular or thematic island maps. Power cards develop each spirit’s capabilities, while Fear cards grant effects gained by frightening the Invaders. Invader cards determine how colonists advance and how blight spreads. The base game contains 8 spirits, 36 Minor Power cards, 22 Major Power cards, 3 Adversaries with multiple difficulty levels, 4 optional Scenarios, and 15 Invader cards. Available modes include solo play, local pass-and-play, Steam Remote Play Together, and online multiplayer between platforms.
