Our take on Skautfold: Moonless Knight
The open-ended framing gives equal weight to exploration and combat, but the actual structure is concentrated in one interconnected Imperial Palace and its immediate surroundings. The game also continues earlier Skautfold events, even though previous-game knowledge is not required.
What is Skautfold: Moonless Knight?
Set in an alternate-history Japan in 1900, this action RPG follows Gray, a knight sent on a diplomatic mission that becomes entangled with a religious coup.
Exploration takes place across an interconnected Imperial Palace with branching routes, shortcuts, hidden areas, and secrets beneath the castle. Bosses can be tackled in different orders, while relics open routes and add combat options. Battles use timed blocks, dodges, feints, guard damage, environmental hazards, and weapon-specific tactics. Health damage also reduces maximum guard, affecting both sides. Vitae Injections restore health or temporarily increase damage and durability. Nine stats develop through repeated use, including weapon proficiency, toughness, and evasion. The story continues events from earlier Skautfold games, though prior knowledge is not required.
