- Players looking for a bright or lighthearted setting may not suit the grim Lovecraftian atmosphere
Our take on Elderand
The game departs from conventional platforming by adding RPG customization, weapon crafting, enemy loot, and written world lore to its combat and exploration. Its gothic setting and creature-focused battles replace the lighter tone common to many platformers.
What is Elderand?
Elderand is a violent side-scrolling combat game set in a Lovecraftian world, combining role-playing systems with pixel-based retro visuals.
Its arsenal spans whips, swords, daggers, axes, bows, enchanted staffs, and oversized blades, each offering distinct attributes and functions. Exploration follows a Metroidvania structure across areas such as a merchant settlement, woodland, an imprisoned sanctuary, airborne isles, a corrupted cathedral, and Elderand. Players can alter their character’s look, abilities, attributes, and equipment. Materials recovered while exploring or looted from fallen foes can support weapon improvements through crafting. The adventure features over 60 varieties of enemies and approximately 12 bosses. Letters and other written messages discovered throughout the world provide context about the spreading darkness.

Elderand compared to similar games
Elderand combines 2D action-platforming, Metroidvania-style exploration, weapon variation, crafting, and RPG customization. Vagante also presents a dark fantasy adventure involving monsters and demons, while its description focuses on adventurers seeking fame, riches, and power rather than Elderand's stated crafting and character-adjustment systems.
