Our take on Sea Dogs
The store presents the game through the promise of limitless choices, but the concrete outline is narrower: four allegiances, quest selection, ship acquisition, crew hiring, and naval attacks. The gap is between broad freedom language and a clearly defined set of campaign systems.
What is Sea Dogs?
Sea Dogs casts the player as a young captain seeking status during the age of sail.
Character progression begins with limited means and can lead to control of the islands for a chosen country or personal gain. The campaign supports four allegiances—British, French, Spanish, or pirate—and allows allegiance changes. Quests can be selected within a nonlinear campaign, while wealth and reputation can be used to obtain larger ships and stronger crew. Captains may be hired to help attack and capture ships or forts. Naval encounters include damage to sails, masts, and hulls, with wind, weather, and a day-night cycle affecting the setting.
