Our take on Retro Machina
Players may hit a wall when progress depends on understanding how to control other machines and apply their abilities to puzzles. Those looking for straightforward combat may also bounce off the shift between fighting, exploration, and investigation across the robot-run city.
What is Retro Machina?
A lone worker automaton is abandoned after breaking down.
In search of repairs, it crosses Endeavor, the planet’s final city, where residents and security systems now identify it as a danger. The robot can infiltrate machines, take command of them, send them into combat, borrow their functions to access obstructed locations, and use them to overcome puzzles. The route spans subterranean installations and Endeavor’s avenues, introducing unfamiliar machines, obstacles, and unanswered questions. Alongside the repair mission, the story investigates the disappearance of humanity and the possibility of finding intelligent beings. Its artwork draws on hand-illustrated science-fiction imagery from the twentieth century.
