Our take on OBEY
The game gives up straightforward combat as its main path to victory. Robot players must weigh destruction against coercion, while other players trade direct attacks for stealth, intelligence, and trickery when approaching the robot.
What is OBEY?
OBEY is an asymmetrical multiplayer game built around commanding and resisting human opponents.
One player can control a giant robot, while other players try to approach it, avoid its attacks, or influence its decisions. The robot player earns money at 10 times the rate of other players and can destroy visible players near the robot. Players are free to follow or reject commands, and the robot player can use coercion to make opponents act in the robot player’s interest. Players outside the robot rely on stealth, intelligence, trickery, and creativity, while repeated direct attacks can leave them waiting to spawn. The winner is the player who has earned the most money by the end of the round.
How OBEY plays
- 01Asymmetrical multiplayer
- Players take unequal roles, with one controlling a giant robot and the others trying to deal with that player.
- 02Human opponent control
- The robot player can command opponents, but each target may choose whether to comply.
- 03Round-based earnings
- The player with the highest earnings when a round ends wins.
- 04Robot control
- A player gains control by entering a door at the robot’s base.
- 05Stealth and trickery
- Players outside the robot can use stealth, intelligence, trickery, and creativity to escape coercion.
- 06Unequal income
- The robot player makes 10x more money per second than the other players.
