Our take on Montabi
The collection framing may suggest that gathering creatures is the main activity, but the listed play loop centers on building decks, managing team combinations, and making tactical decisions on a small grid. Trainer defeat also ends a run, adding a failure condition that is less prominent than the creature roster.
What is Montabi?
Montabi is a creature-collecting roguelike deckbuilder built around turn-based combat.
Players choose from 22 starters, collect more than 60 creatures, and assemble teams whose abilities can be combined for different strategies. Each evolutionary line has its own deck, while equipment and charms add further choices during a run. Montabi can gain levels, learn new moves, evolve, and receive additional card abilities. Battles take place on a 3x3 grid against opponents and a local X Gang boss. Trainer selection affects playstyle, including positioning, close combat, and meals that improve the team. The trainer must survive, since their defeat ends the game. Runs also include more than 30 randomized city events and cafés where hit points can be recovered.

Montabi compared to similar games
Montabi combines creature collection, team evolution, card abilities, and 3x3 grid combat, while Shogun Showdown focuses on positioning, attack tiles, skill selection, and deck construction before a boss fight. Both use turn-based roguelike structure, but Montabi adds creature growth, trainers, equipment, charms, and randomized city events.
