Our take on GIGASWORD
The sword’s dual role creates a trade-off: combat readiness is tied to an object that must also be grounded for puzzles and traversal. That design gives the central weapon broader uses, but asks players to shift between fighting and manipulating the environment.
What is GIGASWORD?
GIGASWORD is an action-puzzle metroidvania about Ezra’s ascent through the Nestrium, an ancient tower threatened by a reality-destroying evil.
The sword serves as both weapon and tool: grounding it can activate pressure plates, open routes, and move blocks. Exploration leads through concealed chambers and forgotten halls, while combat involves slashing and dodging demons, corrupted bosses, and other fiends. Progression adds abilities including Thunder Bolts, Crawling Sparks, and Grappling Hooks, allowing new ways to navigate traps, drops, and resistant enemies. The story follows humanity’s attempt to claim Gnosis, the God Crystal, as a remedy for famine and disease in Thoenhart.
How GIGASWORD plays

- 04Ability Progression
- New capabilities include Thunder Bolts, Crawling Sparks, and Grappling Hooks for handling obstacles and enemies.
GIGASWORD compared to similar games
Jusant centers on climbing tools, stamina management, multiple routes, and a meditative ascent, while GIGASWORD combines tower exploration with sword-based puzzles, melee combat, bosses, and ability progression. Sundered: Eldritch Edition is also a metroidvania, but its description emphasizes a definitive edition and added update content rather than GIGASWORD’s sword manipulation and environmental puzzle structure.
