Our take on Monster Run: Downfall of the Empire
Instead of placing players in the role of a human defender or conventional hero, the game casts a giant monster cat as the protector. Its campaign replaces a fixed mission sequence with runs that can reshuffle missions.
What is Monster Run: Downfall of the Empire?
Monster Run is a single-player dark fantasy beat’em up with roguelite and survival elements.
Players control a giant fire-breathing monster cat defending its forest by attacking human soldiers, minibosses, wizards, fortresses, and castles. Combat includes supernatural attacks such as roars, electricity, and summoned blades. More than 100 upgrades can develop 10 or more additional abilities and attacks. The campaign contains 22 or more missions, while each new run can replace some missions with alternate versions. Enemy forces include more than 66 unit types, with varied tactics and stances. Human soldiers can panic when allies are massacred. Environments such as towers, furniture, and castles can be destroyed, and an optional permadeath mode adds lasting run failure.
