Our take on Selfloss
The defining mechanic is Kazimir’s magical staff, which can be controlled separately from its owner for combat, puzzles, cleansing, and boat travel.
What is Selfloss?
Play as Kazimir, an old healer traveling by boat and on foot through a Slavic-inspired fantasy world shaped by whale worship and Icelandic landscapes.
Search for a ritual that can mend his wounded soul while confronting the Miasma, a mysterious affliction spreading across the land. Kazimir’s magical staff supports combat, puzzle solving, and boat travel, with control that can operate together with or separately from the healer. Explore rivers, waters, and land, meet inhabitants, ease their suffering, and perform healing rituals for people affected by loss. The journey includes stories influenced by Slavic myths, whale gods, and a soundtrack by Arigto.
How Selfloss plays
- 01Dual Staff Control
- The magical staff can be directed independently from Kazimir or used alongside him during play.
- 02Boat Exploration
- Kazimir travels through winding rivers and dangerous waters aboard a small boat powered by the staff.
- 03Miasma Combat
- The staff’s burning light is used against enemies created by the spreading affliction.
- 04Healing Rituals
- Encounters with inhabitants include easing suffering and carrying out rituals for people grieving lost loved ones.
- 05Staff-Based Puzzles
- The staff provides different methods for solving environmental puzzles and cleansing areas affected by Miasma.
Selfloss compared to similar games
Selfloss combines exploration, staff-based puzzles, combat, boat travel, and healing rituals in a whale-worshipping fantasy setting. Ghost of a Tale also focuses on action-RPG exploration, but places its adventure in an animal-populated medieval world with stealth, disguises, and conversations.
