Our take on Heck Deck
Instead of letting combat unfold continuously, Heck Deck advances time only as the player moves. That shifts a familiar bullet-hell rhythm: positioning and dodging also determine when attacks and hazards progress, while card choices add a separate strategic layer.
What is Heck Deck?
Heck Deck combines bullet-hell movement with card use across 5 stages.
Time progresses only when the player moves, making movement part of the timing and precision required during combat. Cards can be collected and used for attacks and spells, but each card picked up costs at least 1 health point. Shops let players buy and sell cards in exchange for health. The stages each have their own setting, music, enemies, and boss. The game includes over 30 enemies and bosses, along with dozens of cards. Its hand-drawn art uses a minimalist style.
How Heck Deck plays
- 01Time tied to movement
- Combat pauses when the player stops moving, linking dodging and timing.
- 02Health-cost card pickups
- Every collected card costs at least 1 health point.
- 03Stage-specific bosses
- Each of the 5 stages has its own setting, music, enemies, and boss.
- 04Card shops
- Players can trade health to buy or sell cards.
