Our take on FINAL FANTASY IV: THE AFTER YEARS
The ten-tale format supports multiple character viewpoints, but it gives up a single continuous campaign structure. Some chapters can be played in different orders, while the overall story still follows a defined opening and later sequence.
What is FINAL FANTASY IV: THE AFTER YEARS?
Set roughly two decades after FINAL FANTASY IV, this 3D remake follows Prince Ceodore, the son of Cecil and Rosa, as a second moon heralds monstrous danger for the Blue Planet.
The adventure contains ten storylines. Ceodore’s episode begins the campaign, followed by six character-centered episodes that can be tackled in any order. Kain’s episode, The Lunarian’s episode, and The Crystals then continue the central narrative. Combat follows Active Time Battle rules.
Lunar cycles alter the strength of attacks and skills for all combatants, changing with elapsed game time or after the party sleeps at an inn, pitches a tent, or stays in a cottage. Band Abilities combine party members’ powers and become available through story events or higher Affinity. A minimap marks the group’s location and nearby surroundings, while providing access to the world map.
