Our take on Eternal Threads
The bounce point arrives when the timeline branches: players must remember how changes at different moments interact, then revisit events and compare outcomes. Anyone looking for direct action may also stop at the investigation-heavy structure, where progress comes from observing, reasoning, and revising choices.
What is Eternal Threads?
Eternal Threads is a single-player, first-person puzzle game about altering time and dealing with the results.
Sent to northern England after a house fire kills six people, the player must change decisions made by the residents during the preceding week rather than prevent the fire directly. Events can be viewed and altered repeatedly in any order, allowing players to follow one character, trace consequences backward, or proceed through the week chronologically. Small changes can move objects or uncover additional story details, while larger changes replace, add, or rewrite events.
The timeline’s interacting decisions create multiple ways to save each housemate, with different effects on their later lives. The damaged house remains the base for observing past events and changes as the timeline is revised.
How Eternal Threads plays
- 01Seven-Day Timeline
- Events from the week before the fire can be viewed and revised in any sequence.
- 02Branching Consequences
- Major decisions can replace existing events, introduce new ones, or alter the house’s objects and rooms.
- 03Multiple Story Routes
- The narrative can be followed character by character, traced backward from outcomes, or experienced in chronological order.
- 04Repeated Revisions
- Previously viewed events and choices can be revisited and changed repeatedly.
- 05Six Survivors
- Each housemate can be saved through multiple approaches, with consequences for their future lives.
