Our take on Destroyer: The U-Boat Hunter
The defining detail is the split between operating a Fletcher-class destroyer and coordinating the wider escort group. Shipboard stations handle the immediate anti-submarine engagement, while convoy configurations and enemy captain behaviors shape the larger battle.
What is Destroyer: The U-Boat Hunter?
This naval simulation combines destroyer command with anti-submarine warfare during the Battle of the Atlantic.
Players control a Fletcher-class ship, using its instruments and attack procedures across 10 stations, such as the bridge, combat information center, sonar room, gun director, and lookout post. Alongside hunting U-boats, players manage an escort group protecting Allied convoys. Battle scenarios are generated with changing conditions, including shifts in weather and daylight as well as differing enemy tactics.
Convoy engagements come in four sizes or formats: small, medium, large, and custom. U-boat commanders have distinct styles, ranging from aggressive or stealthy to patient or professional. Encounters include more than 300 voice reports, and a four-part soundtrack adjusts to the tension between the destroyer and its opponent.
