Our take on Wolfpack
The focus on manual submarine operation creates a narrow current structure: play centers on one Skirmish mode and requires players to manage many individual systems. That depth leaves less room for varied mission types or a faster, lighter pace.
What is Wolfpack?
Wolfpack is a cooperative simulation set aboard a German Type VII U-boat during World War II.
Players operate stations and instruments from an uninterrupted first-person view, controlling engines, motors, rudders, ballast systems, periscopes, weapons, and communication equipment. Hydrophones assist with locating targets and avoiding enemies, while plotting tools support attack and navigation planning. Crews can play together, join several U-boats in a wolfpack, or play alone with bots. The current game mode is Skirmish, in which players attack and destroy an escorted convoy in an open-sea battle. Multiplayer uses peer-to-peer hosting. The game also includes radio communication between U-boats through real-time Morse code encrypted with Enigma.
How Wolfpack plays
- 01Interactive U-boat stations
- Players directly control valves, levers, instruments, propulsion systems, steering surfaces, tanks, vents, and weapons.
- 02Cooperative crew play
- Several players can operate the same submarine, while multiple U-boats can participate in a wolfpack.
- 03Solo bot crews
- Single-player sessions can use bots to fill crew roles.
- 04Attack planning tools
- Plotting equipment supports navigation and the preparation of torpedo attacks.
- 05Underwater detection
- A hydrophone can locate targets and monitor for nearby threats.
- 06U-boat radio traffic
- Submarines can exchange messages using live Morse code passed through Enigma encryption.
